STOLEN LIVES DAY OF REMEMBRANCE

Milwaukee’s Stolen Lives Day of Remembrance is an annual citywide community gathering honoring people whose lives have been lost in custody, at the hands of, or under the watch of law enforcement, correctional, and security systems.

Now in its third year, this free and open-to-the-public gathering creates space for families, loved ones, and community members to come together in remembrance, reflection, and solidarity. We honor the humanity and lives of those we have lost while uplifting families who continue to seek transparency, answers, and accountability surrounding the investigations of their loved ones’ deaths.

Each year, the gathering features a Family Memorial Showcase, where families create and display artistic remembrance expressions honoring the lives of their loved ones. Through photographs, artwork, keepsakes, written reflections, memorial displays, and other creative tributes, families are given space to share who their loved ones were, celebrate their lives, and ensure they are remembered for more than the circumstances surrounding their deaths.

The evening also brings together impacted families, community members, advocates, artists, poets, and local organizations for remembrance, storytelling, artistic expression, reflection, and community connection. Everyone is welcome, and there is no cost to attend.
